District administration, Leh with the support of NGOs has set up all-weather public convenience cum café at Zangsti and New Bus Stand. This initiative was much needed in Leh to cope up with the problems people face of not having a proper public toilet.
Conjoined with a cafe and a sales outlet, this aesthetic & hygienic public toilet has been built in an eco-friendly way, using local architectural method with insulated walls and mud plaster. Most importantly, it has been designed to function throughout the year. Besides, ramp access has also been provided to make it differently abled friendly.
The executing agencies who effectively implemented the project are MCL (Municipal Committee Leh), LEDeG (Ladakh Ecological Development Group) and BORDA. They came up with the amazing architectural design as well. LEDeG also provided additional financial support under their project "Livable Leh".
The user fee collected from the washrooms and income generated from the cafe & sales outlets will be utilized for its maintenance.
