Matho Nagrang is a festival held in Matho monastery, a monastery of the Sakya School of Tibetan Buddhism in Ladakh. It falls on the 14th and 15th day of the first month of the Tibetan calendar. This year it will be celebrated on 18th and 19th February. During this two-day festival, mask dances are performed by monks of the monastery wearing colorful silk brocade robes and masks in different forms of God and Goddesses. Two oracles appear in the courtyard of the monastery accompanying the mask dancers. The purpose of the oracles is to predict future events for Matho and Ladakh for the year ahead. This festival takes place around a week after Stok Guru Tsechu festival. A large number of people flock together to witness the festival of Matho Nagrang. You can attend the festival and witness the events as it takes place.
